First pass
Read the whole set
Everything gets looked at once, in order, at speed — the way you would read a contact sheet. This is where the shape of the story appears: where the day (or the trip, or the year) actually turns.
Not an algorithm choosing the ones where everybody is smiling. A person who does this all day, reading your whole set and finding the story inside it. Free, unlimited revisions, no obligation.
Nobody's photographs are lost. They are all right there, backed up twice, perfectly safe and completely unlooked-at. What is missing is the half-day of concentrated, slightly painful work that turns four thousand frames into one hundred and sixty — and that half-day never becomes the most urgent thing in anyone's week.
A photo curation service is simply somebody doing that work on your behalf. You hand over the whole set, without pre-selecting, and a curator goes through every frame: throwing out the near-duplicates, keeping the one where the light was right, noticing the picture of your father laughing that you skimmed past because it is slightly out of focus. Then a designer lays those frames out as a book with a beginning, a middle and an end.
Almost everyone's instinct is to be helpful: to whittle nine hundred pictures down to a hundred and fifty favourites before sending them. It feels considerate. It is the single thing that most damages the finished album, for three reasons.
So: send the lot. If there are pictures you never want to see again, say which and they are gone. Everything else is our problem.
First pass
Everything gets looked at once, in order, at speed — the way you would read a contact sheet. This is where the shape of the story appears: where the day (or the trip, or the year) actually turns.
Second pass
Eleven frames of the same moment become one. This is the pass that removes two-thirds of a camera roll and almost none of its content, and it is the part people find hardest to do to their own pictures.
Third pass
Pictures are paired, sized and sequenced. Something is given a full spread because it earns one, not because it is sharp. White space is used deliberately. The book is designed to be turned, not scrolled.
The curation and the design are free, and they stay free however many rounds of changes you want. You pay only for the finished object, and only after you have paged through it and said yes. There is no deposit and no card on file at any point.
That is unusual. Most services in this space charge per page for the design work before anything is printed — typically somewhere around a dollar a page, which puts a hundred-page book at a hundred dollars before you have seen a single spread. We would rather absorb that and let the work make the argument. See the full price breakdown.
Any set of photographs with something in common. In practice it is mostly these:
Beyond that: anniversaries, retirements, a grandparent's ninetieth, a restoration project photographed over three years, twenty years of a business. If it is on a drive somewhere and it means something, it can be a book. Start with the free gallery and tell us what it is.
A private online gallery for your photographs, and a designed album to page through. Leave your email and we will send you a single upload link — your design follows in three to five working days.
