Brides Bindery
A family of five looking through a hand-bound photo album together by the fire
Our mission

We make heirlooms for generations

You know that feeling when you find an old family album and suddenly you are transported back — surrounded by people you love, who may not be with us anymore? This is what we do — we build time machines dressed as albums.

Designed with caremade to last decades

Not your typical photobook

Eighty years before the colour even thinks about moving

Set against a shop-bought photo book, this is a different object. Real photographic paper, pages that hold their shape, a spread that opens completely flat — and colour that will not move for eighty years.

Twenty years of making these, guaranteed for the life of the book. Fifty-three cover materials to choose from — or send us a piece of your own and we will bind it in that.

What the guarantee covers

How it works

Three steps, and only the first one is yours

No software to learn, no page count to guess at, no decisions you did not ask for.

Step One

Two people at a café table looking through an open album together

Upload everything

We send you a private gallery link. Drag in the whole folder — the gallery your photographer delivered, the phone pictures, the ones your aunt took. Send all of it. Choosing is our job, and a curator who sees the whole set makes far better decisions than you trying to shortlist nine hundred files.

Step Two

A designer at a desk laying out album spreads on a large monitor

We curate and design it

A person, not a template. Within three to five working days you get a link and page through your album exactly as it will be printed. Move a photo, swap a spread, ask for more of the speeches and less of the venue — as many times as you like, at no cost.

Step Three

An album being packed into its presentation box in the bindery

It is bound by hand

Only once you say yes. The order goes to the bindery: printed on real photographic paper, bound by hand, finished in the cover you chose and boxed so that opening it feels like the occasion it is. Shipped worldwide within ten working days.

What we make

Four things worth printing

Start with the album, on its own or as a set with copies for both sets of parents. Most people end up adding one of the other three as well.

Your parents were there too

They watched the whole thing from the second row, and at the end of it they went home with a phone full of photographs taken from too far away. Both sets of parents deserve the day in their hands, not just you.

So the set of three is an option, and the price reflects what it actually is: one piece of design work and three books made in one run. A Heritage album on its own is $495 and the Heritage set of three is $895, so the second and third book cost considerably less than the first.

Sets in the Everyday and Matted lines are quoted individually — tell us the size and the cover you have in mind and we will price it.

  • Your album, in the line, size and cover you chose.
  • A copy for each set of parents if you take the set, in the same design and a smaller format.
  • Bound in one run, so the three books match down to the grain of the linen.
  • One design fee, which is nothing. The curation and layout are free whether it is one book or three.

What a package costs

Before the day

The guest book, and the other things the day itself needs

Most of this site is about what happens after the wedding. This part is the exception, and it is the one with a deadline.

A guest book from us comes two ways. Blank — heavyweight uncoated pages, bound in the same linens and leathers as the albums, for signatures and messages and nothing else. Or as a photograph album you can write in: your engagement or pre-wedding pictures printed on deep matte paper, which takes ballpoint and fountain pen without beading or smudging. Guests write around the pictures of you, which is a far better prompt than a blank page.

We also make the smaller printed pieces for the day itself — anything on the same fine art papers as the prints. Tell us what you have in mind.

Price on request

Please write to us at least a month before the wedding. Everything here is made to order and hand-bound, and a guest book that arrives the week after the reception is of no use to anybody. A month gives us room to design it, let you change your mind, print it and get it to you.

Getting it to you

Shipping, duties and taxes are on us

The price you approve is the price you pay. There is no delivery line added at checkout and no courier asking you for money at the door.

Packed like it matters

The album goes into its own presentation box, the box into a moulded protective layer, and that into a rigid outer carton with corner protection. Nothing rattles and nothing touches the cover. It is over-engineered on purpose — a corner knock on a hand-bound book cannot be polished out.

Worldwide, all inclusive

We ship anywhere. Shipping, customs handling, duties and import taxes are all included in the order — we pay them, not you. Whatever the tariff situation is in your country this month is our problem to work out, not something you have to read about before ordering.

Straight to your parents, wrapped

If you order a set and the copies should go to the parents rather than to you, say so. We send each one to its own address, boxed and wrapped as a gift, with a card if you want one. There is no charge for the extra addresses — which matters most when the people in question live several countries away.

Films from the bindery

You cannot photograph how something feels in the hand

So here is the next best thing — the paper, the binding and the box, in motion.

The making

Three decisions that separate an album from a photo book

They are not obvious in a photograph. They are unmistakable in the hand.

Close-up of the surface of Lustre photographic paper catching the light

The paper

Not toner on card. Every page is a genuine photographic print on Fuji professional paper, calibrated by their print team roll by roll, so the colour in the album is the colour that was graded.

Who makes it

We design. We do not bind.

Every album, folio, box and frame on this site is made by a bindery that has spent twenty years at the top of the photo-album market. We are not going to pretend we bind them ourselves — what we do is choose your photographs, design the book, and put it in the hands of people whose work we would put our name to.

The part that matters to you is access. They supply studios rather than shops, and we hold a designer account with them — so their whole range opens up to you through us: materials, finishes and formats that never reach a retail catalogue.

And because we commission albums constantly rather than one at a time, we buy on volume. That is why the same book, from the same makers, costs meaningfully less through us than it would through your photographer, who orders yours and then does not order another for months.

See what comes out of it

What it costs

Free to design. Priced like a bindery, not a boutique.

Most people meet the album as a line on somebody else's invoice, marked up twice before it reaches them. You are coming to the people who actually make it — so the curation and the design cost nothing, and the album costs what an album from a bindery costs.

Nothing is charged, reserved or authorised until you have paged through your own album and told us you love it. If you do not, we delete your files and that is the end of it.

Lifetime guarantee against binding and manufacturing defects.

Our guarantees

Three promises — and one of them we have already had to keep

You are about to spend money on an object you have not held, made from photographs you have not printed. Here is everything we do to make that a decision you cannot get wrong.

Love it, or send it back

If the album arrives and it is not what you hoped for, send it back and we refund everything you paid. Then we destroy it. It is your wedding — it is not going into a sample pile and it is certainly not being resold. We can offer that because of what usually happens when the box is opened.

Still beautiful for your grandchildren

Archival, acid-free materials and a hand-sewn binding, so the book does not yellow, crack or shed its pages the way a glued photo book does. We guarantee that your grandchildren — and theirs — will be able to open this album and find it intact. Manufacturing and binding defects are covered for life.

The Vault — we keep your album, forever

Every design we make is backed up in our archive and kept indefinitely. If the album is ever lost, damaged or destroyed, we print it again from the original files. That is not a hypothetical: when the California wildfires took more than a dozen of the books we had made, we simply made them again.

Which is the real promise underneath all three: the album can burn. The memories cannot.
